u/ivanmat_, there is an un-documented google/gmail workaround still active to this date that allows you to achieve Push notifications with iOS's native Mail app and Google-email (gmail). For this to work, when you configure your gmail account on the iOS's Native Mail app you have to select 'other' from the Mail account options: -Settings - Mail ... Since a couple of days ago they have stopped syncing. If I clear cache storage in the app, the accounts resume syncing but only for a short while.
